Hi Angela,

I've had a quick look at the research paper, and they were working with infants aged 6-10 months. I'd need to know more about brain development to guess whether this effect would show earlier, and though I'd love to learn, no-one has funded my PhD yet.

You can find their paper here, if you fancy a look at it yourself.

Hey There Phil Culmer,
This question may be a little off-topic, what are the early symptoms? and how early can you detect it? two-3 months much too early? any tales?
Thanks

As a person with Asperger's myself I was really looking forward to this programme. I was rather frustrated though because I couldn't tell the voices apart and struggled to work out who was speaking.

Hi "Frustrated",
I'd like to apologise for the fact that we don't have anything on the site yet for dyscalculia. As you say, it does not yet have a very high profile, but I would not say that makes it in any way "acceptable" to mock someone for this disability.

Thank you for pointing out that we are lacking content in this area. I've brought this to the attention of our chairperson, and will be looking for (hopefully useful) sites to which to link.

In the mean time, I've had a look for something to get started with, and there doesn't seem to be much self help stuff - what there is is mainly aimed at teachers.
The following sites, however, look like they might be helpful:
The Dyscalculia Centre
Developing Number Sense
LD Online have some links here which may help.

I'll keep looking for helpful material.
Once again, thank you for pointing out something that we've overlooked - please don't give up on us yet!

This entry contains the first mention of dyscalculia I've found on this site, which I found very disappointing. As someone with dyscalculia I was really interested by your fliers and thought that this might be a place where I could pick up some tips on coping with my immense difficulty with numbers and direction.

Imagine my disappointment when I discover that once again 'number blindness' is the invisible learning difficulty. For some reason dyscalculia is the one no one's heard of, the one that it's still acceptable to mock people for having where doing the same to a dyslexic would clearly be wrong.
